Learning Adobe After-Effects and Screen Recording

My students are preparing for a concert. While they have composed their pieces on their own, the stage effect is lacking. We are creating visuals to go along with their music. They may use the iTunes visualiser and program it, triggering different patterns in real-time; or they may create an original logo and have it respond to the audio by using after-effects. Either way, we will have to learn each program and then learn to record the screen and export the resulting video using Quicktime. Here is an example from Youtube of an after-effects creation:
